The Nanuk Lodge of the Order of the Arrow sponsors a couple of different awards that scouts can earn through participation and engagement with camping and or our state. These awards are available for purchase from the local scout shop upon completion. Please see the information below regarding each awards, how it can be earned, and how to document completion. If there is another award that you think the Lodge should sponsor, please let your OA Unit Representative know so that they can help you engage with the proper Lodge Executive Committee team.
Relaunched in 2026, the Alaska Heritage Award is deigned to help scouts (Arrow of Light and up) and scouters engage with the great state we call home. From learning about the natural beauty and resources of the Last Frontier, to its history and way of life, the Alaska Heritage Award brings a deeper connection with the 49th state.

A long-established tradition in Alaska and throughout Scouting, Frost Points recognize Scouts and Scouters who embrace the challenge of camping year-round—even when winter arrives in the Last Frontier.
The Nanuk Lodge Frost Point Program celebrates those who go above and beyond to experience the outdoors in every season. Whether beneath the northern lights, surrounded by winter snow, or simply waking up to a very cold morning, Frost Points recognize the dedication it takes to keep camping when the temperature drops.
A Frost Point is earned for each degree below freezing (32°F) recorded during a night spent sleeping outdoors. The colder the night, the more Frost Points are earned. Over the course of the Frost Point season, those individual points add up to special recognition for Scouts and Scouters who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to year-round camping.
Frost Points are accumulated over an annual season beginning in the fall and concluding in the spring. At the end of the season, unit leaders may complete the award form and submit it to store@greatalaskacouncil.org before visiting the Great Alaska Council Trading Post to purchase the appropriate awards.
A Growing Tradition
The Frost Point program has a long history in Alaska Scouting, and the Nanuk Lodge program continues to grow alongside the Scouts who participate in it. Prior to 2026, the program did not include a 400° Below award. Thanks to the extraordinary dedication of several Scouts who have pushed the boundaries of winter camping, that level of recognition is now being added to the program.
As existing inventory is replenished, Nanuk Lodge will also begin introducing a redesigned Frost Point patch program, creating a fresh look for this longstanding Alaska Scouting tradition while preserving the spirit of the original awards.
