The Order of the Arrow is Scouting’s national honor society—a brotherhood of Scouts and Scouters who seek to live the ideals of cheerful service, leadership, and fellowship. Across the country, Arrowmen come together to strengthen their units, serve their councils, build meaningful traditions, and create experiences that inspire others to live the Scout Oath and Law.
Here in Alaska, that tradition lives on through Nanuk Lodge 355, the Order of the Arrow lodge of the Great Alaska Council.
Named for the Inuit word for polar bear, Nanuk Lodge reflects the character of the Scouts and Scouters we serve: resilient, adventurous, and at home in the Last Frontier. For generations, Nanuk Arrowmen have gathered around campfires, served their council and communities, developed young leaders, and built friendships that last well beyond their time in Scouting.
But the Order of the Arrow is more than a patch on a uniform or a title earned at an event. It is an invitation to do more.
Arrowmen take an active role in camping and outdoor adventure, service projects, leadership development, lodge and section events, and the traditions that make Scouting memorable. Whether you’re a newly elected candidate discovering what the OA is all about, a longtime Arrowman looking for your next opportunity to serve, or simply curious about what happens beyond the unit level, there is a place for you in Nanuk Lodge.
More Than an Honor
Membership in the Order of the Arrow is an honor—but it is also a responsibility.
The OA challenges its members to put others first, to lead by example, and to make Scouting better for everyone around them. Through the traditions of the Ordeal, Brotherhood, and Vigil honors, Arrowmen are encouraged to deepen their commitment to cheerful service and to the ideals upon which the Order was founded.
For Nanuk Lodge, that commitment takes on a distinctly Alaskan character. Our geography presents challenges unlike those faced by most lodges, but it also gives us opportunities for adventure, service, and fellowship found nowhere else. From the forests and mountains to the coast and Arctic, Nanuk Arrowmen carry the spirit of the Order wherever Scouting takes us.
