What is Traveling Day Camp
Summer camp for youth is a great time in a child’s life. At camp, a child learns by doing in an outdoor setting. They get the chance to learn new skills in things they have never done before. Also, they get the opportunity to meet new people. Summer camp is just a wonderful all-around experience.
Alaska, as we know, is a big place. It is not always feasible to have young Youth ages K -5th grade comes to Camp Gorsuch in the Anchorage Area for our Cub Scout Programs. That is where this program comes into play, rather than having them come to us, we bring camp to them! In 2021 we served three communities across the state. Our goal in 2022 is to serve even more youth and communities.
This program is limited to Alaskan communities, not on the road system. For everyone on the road system, we have Camp Gorsuch!
Why you should consider having this program come to your community?
It is Fun, Educational, and Full of Adventure
It’s quite simple really, youth love to have fun. Parents love opportunities to help their children grow. When you put both of those things together in an outdoor setting you get an adventure your child will not forget. However, don’t take our word for it, check out all the adventures that youth had in 2021-2022 in the communities that hosted this program.

2023 Camp Program and Theme
This year we look forward to bringing the adventures of Cubs in Space in each community this program comes to. From learning about how rockets work to building your own rocket design. This program has something for everyone. Activities include the following.
- Overnight Camp Experience
- Opening Campfire and Games
- BB Guns and Archery
- Water Games and Fishing
- Science Experiments
- So much more
Become a Sponsor of Traveling Day Camp
All monetary donations large and small are accepted to help fund this program. Items and program supplies may also be donated but need to be within the scope of the program to use. As it is expensive to get supplies and manpower to and from remote Alaska.
As a sponsor, you can choose whether to donate to a specific camp in a specific community; or to help cover the costs for the whole program. Your donation will be used only for the specific area you direct it to go towards. We cannot and will not use your donation contrary to how you wish it to be used.
As a sponsor, you will be recognized for your support, with your company logo on all print and marketing materials in the community(s) if you wish. Along with that, as the Great Alaska Council is a 501c3 Charitable Organization, your donation of any kind can be used as a tax break on your taxes for the year in which you give.
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please reach out.
How to get a Traveling Cub Camp in your community?
Give us a call about Traveling Day Camp, we would be happy to visit with you about this unique program. Once you have spoken to us share this webpage and the Program Guide with your friends and family to see if they would be interested in having us come to your community. We would love to come, there just needs to be about 10 youth between the grades of K-5th who are interested in attending. With less youth, less fun happens.
Once we (you and us) know there will be enough interest to run this program in your community the Camp Director will walk beside you through the steps of having a successful program in your community.
Once in contact with the GAC, please be willing to give a hand in the planning and running of this program. Programs like this do not just happen, it takes people to help run activities.
Invite everyone in your community to attend when this program is in your part of Alaska. We are happy to have them come out and be a part of the adventure.
