Where Should You Camp Next?

Find Your Next Adventure

Alaska is an incredible place to explore, and some of the best Scouting experiences happen beyond the boundaries of a traditional council camp. The “Where to Go Camping Guide” helps Scout leaders, Scouters, and families discover places throughout Alaska to camp, hike, paddle, cycle, ride, boat, and enjoy the outdoors.

The guide is a living resource, continually updated as new destinations are discovered and existing information changes. Whether you’re looking for a weekend campsite, a new hiking destination, a place to launch a canoe, or somewhere to take your unit for an outdoor adventure, we hope this guide helps you find your next destination.

Know a great place that isn’t listed? Help us make the guide better! Email info@nanuk-lodge.org to share a location, update existing information, or recommend a new outdoor opportunity for Scouts and their families.

Year-Round Camping

Keep Adventuring - Get Rewarded

Camping is at the heart of Scouting, and promoting a strong outdoor program is one of the fundamental purposes of the Order of the Arrow. The lessons learned around a campfire, the confidence gained on the trail, and the appreciation developed through time spent outdoors are an important part of the Scouting experience.

The Year-Round Camping Award Program encourages Scouts and Scouters to keep that experience going throughout the entire year—not just during the traditional summer camping season.

Open to Scouts, Venturers, Sea Scouts, and Scouters, the program recognizes individuals who continue to camp with their units throughout the year. Whether you’re sleeping under the stars on a warm summer night or bundling up for a winter campout, every season offers a different opportunity to experience the outdoors.

Units can purchase awards to recognize participating Scouts at a unit meeting, Court of Honor, or other appropriate ceremony. It’s a simple way to celebrate those who consistently answer the call to get outside, go camping, and make the most of every season.

Campership Program

Helping More Scouts Get to Camp

Every Scout should have the opportunity to experience summer camp.

Nanuk Lodge raises funds to help Scouts attend camp when financial circumstances might otherwise prevent them from participating. You do not need to be a member of the Order of the Arrow to apply. Campership assistance is available to Scouts who demonstrate financial need and is intended to help make the camp experience accessible to more young people.

Applications should be completed in full and submitted to Nanuk Lodge for review. Because the number of requests we receive each year can exceed the funds available, camperships are awarded based on demonstrated need and available funding. Full camperships are rarely possible, and families and/or units are generally asked to contribute toward the remaining balance of the camp fee.

Every dollar raised for the campership program represents another opportunity for a Scout to experience the friendships, adventure, independence, and personal growth that come with spending time at camp.
