Why should I create an account for this website?

More and more our event registrations will be onilne.  We always ask for the same information in all of the registration forms.  When you are logged into your website account many of the fields will auto fill with the information that you provided when you created your account.  This means that you won't need to type this information in time after time, and that saves you time.

Where can I download a Tour Permit?

Under the Unit Leader Resources menu click on the National BSA Forms link.  On the National Website the Local Tour Permit PDF is the 8th box on the list.

Why did you guys decide to change the website?

Over that past 2 years we have learned an incredible amount about how to administer our website. After hearing feedback from our Scouters we decided it was time to come up with the Great Alaska Council website 2.0. In this new version we’ve simplified the homepage, made it easier to navigate, and packed it full of content.

Here is a brief outline on how the site is now structured:

·        The menus on the left hand side of the page will be the main starting point for navigation. Many of the links will match up with committee member positions that you have in your Scout unit.

·        The main body of the page will be dedicated to news items with links so you can find all the information that you need.

·        We also now have featured events that will be represented with a photo or graphic. We put them front and center because they are our most important events.

Where did the upcoming events go?

Most everything has been integrated into the menu that is on the left hand side of the page.

For example: Our Upcoming Events can now be found under the Activities menu.  The Guide to Safe Scouting and National BSA forms can be found under Unit Leader ResourcesThe Merit Badge Counselor List is now under the Advancement Menu.

So what's new on the website?

Besides the new look the following things are new:

  • This FAQ section is new!
  • We now have a Community Service Forum.  We get a lot of requests from organizations that need help in some way.  The Community Service Forum is a place where community organizations can post ideas for service projects.  Look to this area when your Scout's need Service Hours.  This feature is located under the Unit Leader Rescources menu.
  • We now have a link to the Order of the Arrow - Nanuk Lodge website.  This link can be found under the Camping menu.
  • We've added a discription of RSS Feeds, how to set one up, and information on how they can save you time.  The info is located under the Web 2.0 menu.

I can稚 find what I知 looking for!

Be sure to check out our Site MapSite Maps are easy to read outlines that list all of the pages connected to our website.  If that doesn't work be sure to try the Search button.  Both of these features are located on the blue bar at the top of the page.  They work wonders!

If you've done both of these things and still can't find what your looking for the chances are what your looking for is not on this website.  If you've reached this point the Council Staff is available to help you.  See our Staff Roster under the Contact Us menu located under the left side of the page.

Let us know if you think we need to add something to our site.  This site is intended to be a resource for you.

How do I know when I知 leaving the Great Alaska Council website?

If you click on a link and a separate internet browser window opens you’re on a website that is not controlled by the Great Alaska Council. This means that if you experience technical difficulties the Great Alaska Council does not have access to fix your issue.

If you have problems on an outside website please contact the website’s administrator. If you’re on the National BSA website it’s best to contact the National Help Desk 800-627-3025.

The only other time a separate internet browser window will open is when you’ve decided to download a document. Documents contain information on upcoming events and are usually in PDF format. If you have a problem downloading a document contact the Great Alaska Council Service Center.

Documents can be found in 2 places.

·        The first is within the text of the website.

o       For example: Let’s say you’re looking at a page for an upcoming event and it says something like “click here to download.” That’s usually a document.

·        The second is within the Document Library

o       The Document Library contains all documents that are currently available for download.

o       This can be found under the Unit Leader Resources menu.

Can I use a search engine to find what I知 looking for?

There are many great Scouters and Council’s that have websites with great information on them. Be warned that these websites may contain outdated, unofficial,  and irrelevant information for Great Alaska Council scouting units. For information on scouting in Great Alaska Council always refer to www.scoutingalaska.orgIt’s official!

Is it ok to use the National BSA website?

YES! In many cases scoutingalaska.org will have links to the National BSA (www.scouting.org) website for content. This website is a great resource for Scouters. The best part is that nearly all content, forms, and procedures can be applied to your unit in the Great Alaska Council. It is also official!

National website is large and you can spend a lot of time looking for what you need. Where appropriate our links will point you to specific areas of the National site. You’ll no longer have to “hunt” for what you’re looking for and that will save you time.

Is there anything that will make it easy for me to get the latest info?

Try subscribing to one of the Council's Feeds This is a handy feature when News and Events are constantly being added, changed, and or deleted. The best part is this feature is completely free and once it’s set up will require zero effort on your part to maintain. Many smart phones and email account providers support this feature. No more going to the Council Website for your Scouting information; the Council Website will be coming to you!
